Kibbutz Nir Oz Confirms Shiri Bibas Murdered in Gaza Captivity

Kibbutz Nir Oz announced early Saturday that resident Shiri Bibas was murdered while held captive in Gaza. The community issued a statement mourning Bibas, who was abducted from her home during the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023.

According to Israeli officials, forensic assessments confirm that Bibas was brutally killed along with her two young sons—Ariel, 4, and Kfir, 9 months old—in November 2023. This revelation comes after Hamas handed over a body it claimed was Bibas, a transfer later found to be the remains of an unidentified Palestinian woman.

In a heartfelt statement, the Kibbutz expressed that after 16 agonizing months of uncertainty, the tragic circle has finally closed for the family. The Bibas family, who had held onto hope for the safe return of Shiri and her sons, now faces the unbearable reality of their loss. They remembered Shiri as a devoted mother, partner, and friend, lamenting that even after months of waiting, there is no comfort in knowing the truth.

The body was transferred via the Red Cross and taken to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv for identification. Residents of the southern Eshkol Regional Council lined the highway and waited outside the institute, paying their respects under harsh, cold conditions.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari stated that forensic evidence confirms the two boys were murdered “with their bare hands” by their captors, who then attempted to cover up these atrocities. The revelation intensifies concerns over the ongoing hostage release and ceasefire deal brokered with US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediation—a deal already marred by previous misidentifications and conflicting claims.
